Urban Park - Sector 20, Dwarka

Dwarka Sub City is planned as a self-contained sub city in the south west part of Delhi, having sector planning as the basic module. The sub city is well planned with residential neighborhoods, robust infrastructure and several urban amenities. Dwarka Sub City Structure Plan: has been evolved by judicious exploitation of land form, landscape elements and environmental considerations well planned residential neighborhoods, robust infrastructure and several urban amenities. While creating an urban development form for various activities for the sub city, the overall skyline for the entire area has been considered and formulated along a discernable pattern. The highest built form will be around two central stations from which emerges a lesser high rise mixed land use, linear development cordoning off a central are comprising the new Sub City

The Commercial spine in the sub city is proposed to be served by DMRC and has been developed on the edge of the site to make it accessible for city level function.

The neighborhoods also offer many parks as well as recreational and cultural attractions for its residents and the integrated development of the recreational areas would enhance and facelift the image of Dwarka Sub City and Delhi The recreational areas constitutes about 17 % of the total sub city area.

THE SITE: Urban Park - Sector-20, Dwarka is a designated District Park spreading over an area of 79.80 Ha surrounded by 60.0 m wide arterial roads on NW and SE side and 45.0 m wide road on NE and SW side.

It is easily approachable from the commercial spine developed along the MRTS and the nearest metro station is the sector-9 Dwarka metro station on the north eastern side.

In addition, the site is strategically located near IGIA, IT hub- Gurgaon, south west and central Delhi, which will compliment and fetch local visitors, as well as national and international tourists.

The terrain is more or less flat with a minor gradient of about 1m between highest and lowest point (211.5 m – 212.5 m above mean sea level). There are low-lying depressions, which are the recharging zones for ground water. The soil is sandy loam and is fertile (soil report). The entire area harbors grasslands with very few trees and wild shrubs and is habitat of few bluebull (neelgai) several peacocks, rabbits etc.

There is an open storm water drain (Trunk drain no 2) which enters the site at the eastern corner and runs along the south east side and south west side of the site. After taking a bend at the western corner it runs west wards, and passes through a culvert; and finally discharges into Najafgarh Drain. It receives surface run-off from Palam village and Airport area. The drain is polluted with BOD of 200 mg/l.

There are various upcoming city level infrastructure projects in the vicinity of the site namely golf course, football stadium complex, sports complexes, international convention centre.

The structure plan for the project shall holistically address the city planning and urban needs in a manner to let people enter in a well-organized sustainable urban environment where they can enjoy day to day active and passive recreation and relaxation.

It is an attempt for creating a destination of unique landscape and architectural characterfor multigenerational usagewhich is culturally inclusive and safe.The dynamics of the Urban Park shall play a vital role, in the social, economic and physical well-being of urban areas and providing relief from intensive urban life style.
