DDA has not only provided excellent sports infrastructure all
over Delhi, it also has various schemes for identifying and nurturing
sports talent in the city.

These schemes utilize the services of eminent sports personalities
in various games to coach and guide budding talent.

Various coaching schemes organised under sports complexes, in tennis, squash, cricket, football, athletics etc. are
designed to encourage a new generation of sports-persons.

Details of two promotion schemes: Sponsored and fully supported by the DDA are as under :-
DDA Atheltics Promotion Scheme-
To encourage atheletics in Delhi, a Promotion Scheme for children
under-14 & under 18, Boys and Girls was introduced for the first time by
Delhi Development Authority. Under the scheme children who qualify
at the selection trials, specially conducted for the purpose, are
trained under the supervision of expert coaches at Jawarharlal Nehru
Stadium. The Scheme was started in 2001 under the able guidance
of Shri Gurbachan Singh Randhawa, the 1st Arjuna awardee in Athletics.
The children are now selected for the scheme based on there performance in various meets/competitions at State and Zonal level. Selected trainees athletes are provided monthly stipend,
sports kit and mediclaim insurance upto Rs. 50,000/- and facilities
for travel / accomodation for participation in outstation atheletics
meets. The trainees are required to attend regular training as per schedule laid down.
DDA Football Promotion Scheme-
DDA Football promotion scheme was launched from 1st June 2002 to
promote and popularize football in Delhi. Under this scheme Boys
Under-14 and Under-16 are selected through selection trials organised
at Siri Fort and Yamuna Sports Complexes. Dates for these trials
are advertised through various means of media. Presently 75 childrens
are undergoing training in this section under the expert guidance
of Shri Melvyn D'Souza and his team of NIS trained coaches at Siri
Fort and Yamuna Sports Complexes. The selected children are provided
with free kit, stipend are covered under mediclaim insurance for
Rs. 50,000/- each. In addition under the scheme two prize money
major tournaments are organised by the DDA every year to promote
football in Delhi:-
- Lt. Governor's Cup Football Tournament at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium
- V.C's Cup Football Tournament for Schools at Siri Fort Sports
Complex.
